The Nikkei Weeklyで”フラガール”の面白い記事を見つけました。 日本映画が外国映画の興行収入を21年ぶりに逆転したとのことです。フラガールの活躍が大きかったようです。
The Japanese movie industry had a bumper year last year, with boxoffice revenues from Japanese movies surpassing those from foreign movies for the first time in 21 years. "Hula Girls," directed by Lee Sang-il, is a contributor to the Japanese movie boom. The movie won the grand prix in four categories of the 30th Japan Academy Prize, whose award ceremony was held Feb.16.
The movie is based on a true story of a coal mining district in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture, which was transformed four decades ago into a spa resort featuring hula dance performance.
"Hula Girl" is about girls in the Joban area who answered the company's advertisement in 1965 seeking hula dancers and endeavored to debut as professional dancers the following year to entertain visitors to the spa resort. The movie depicts their struggle comically and touchingly.
