Among the Big Three, the largest General Motors reported a 45% drop to 166,744 units, mainly due to a severe slump in the sales of its specialty large-sized cars.
Japanese automakers, which specialize in fuel-efficient small-sized cars, also suffered sharp plunges, with the three major companies, including Toyota, reporting more than 29% falls.
