The Financial Services Agency issued July 3 business improvement orders to Nomura Securities Co., where a former employee was charged with insider trading, and 10 life insures that failed to pay benefits properly.
In each of these cases, the firms were not found to have violated the law and have taken voluntary steps to improve operations. But the financial watchdog decided that such efforts were in sufficient from the standpoint of protecting investors and policyholders.
The FSA ordered that Nomura submit a business improvement plan detailing how the brokerage will set up an internal control structure that can cover the diversification and glovalization of its operation and how the firm plans to improve the way workers manage information.
