The government of Japan and the United States renewed their commitment to maintaining and strengthening the bilateral security alliance on Tuesday, when they marked the 50th anniversary of the current Japan-US Security Treaty.
The current, revised Japan-US Security Treaty on January 19th in 1960, obligate the US to protect Japan in exchange for Japan's hosting US forces within the country.
On the 60th anniversary of the US air raids on downtown Tokyo in 1945, a memorial rite was held for about 100,000 victims, mostly women, children and the aged, with the attendance of two thousand people including syrvivors and bereaved families.
